A banner year for the St. Charles Women’s Club who raised $30,000.00 this 2017-18 club year. This $30k has been distributed directly into the St. Charles Parish community. SCWC awarded the monies at their annual distribution general membership meeting. The event was held at the Grand Ridge club in Luling.
$12,000.00 of the funds went to scholarship for 13 high school graduating seniors of St. Charles Parish. The scholarship recipients were: Conrad Alleman, Alexis Callet, Kalyn Green, Donna Henrichs, Sarah James, Coade Mataya, Cameron Matthews, Brendan Mott, Maria Pinero, Marshay Stevenson, Madeline Taliancich, Julia Tastet, and Lauren Watson.
The remainder of the funds were given to non-profit organizations that service St. Charles parish and its residents. These groups applied for grants to the SCWC for specific purposes. The Civic disbursement committee meets to consider the request to grant the funds. The 2018 recipients this year were; The Pink Ladies Volunteers for the purchase of beauty supplies for residents at Ormond Nursing home. St. Charles Borromeo Ministry of Care for assistance to the needy of food, utilities, rent, medicine, clothing, burial prosthesis, transportation, support Prison ministry. Matthew 25:35 Food Pantry SCUMC to provide food and educational seminars. Creative Family Solutions to conduct Character Critters Programs for children ages 5-9.
River Region Ballet, Inc for a children’s dance camp ages 4-14. Alpha Daughters of Zion to host a Youth, Teens, Young Adult Empowerment Rally. St. Charles Borromeo Peace & Justice Ministry to fund Labor of Love projects repairing homes for disabled, elderly and low income families. Destrehan High School toward financial support of the senior citizen Christmas celebration. Destrehan High School Handyman Crew Program to help with supplies to service building such as handicap ramps. St. Charles Social Concerns to assist with food, utilities, rents, medicine, & clothing for disadvantaged citizens.
ARC of St. Charles to renovate their multipurpose center, update technology, purchase equipment, and provide healthier options. German Coast Farmer’s Market to commission local artist to create interactive panels for children. River Road Historical Society to fund Zoo to You, the farm animal’s exhibit for Spring Heritage Day at Destrehan Plantation. SCP Community Services to purchase materials to rehabilitate homes in SCP. St. Charles Parish Humane Society to Spay/Neuter Feral Cats and fund Pet Adoption Program. LA Ovation Vocal Ensemble for consult and professional fees, music, publicity and musicians accompaniment. And the Headstart Program of St. Charles Parish schools which funds clothing and educational games for children of the program at Christmas time.
