The St. Charles Parish Library will host two events at the beginning of June to help adults “Escape the Ordinary” this summer.
Book Buzz, a presentation by Sharon Parker of Random House Publishers, will be held on Wednesday, June 3 at 10 a.m. at the West Regional Library, 105 Lakewood Dr. in Luling, and again at 2 p.m. at the East Regional Library, 160 W. Campus Dr. in Destrehan.
Parker will highlight forthcoming books and give readers the inside scoop on future bestsellers. Samplers with excerpts from books that have not been published, book catalogs, and
“Keep Calm and Read On” canvas bags will be available for all attendees.”
The library will host its annual after-hours event for adults, After Hours @ the Library, at the West Regional Library, 105 Lakewood Dr. in Luling, on Friday, June 5 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The theme of this year’s after-hours event is “Game Night.” A variety of board games will be available for free play. Attendees will get the chance to interact with some of the library’s collection of robots and use the Oculus Rift, a virtual reality headset that lets users step inside virtual worlds and look around just as they would in real life.
In addition to the games, a preliminary plan for the renovation of the West Regional Library will be on display. A photo area and refreshments will also be available.
“We had our first ever after-hours event for adults last summer, and everyone had a great time,” said Julie Cancienne, West Regional Librarian. “We had fun planning it, and attendees gave us great feedback. We’re going to feature many different types of games this year, as well as bring back some popular elements from last year’s after-hours event.”
Attendees must be 18 years of age or older.
All St. Charles Parish Library events are free of charge and open to the public. Registration in the Summer Reading Program is not necessary to attend events.
