St. Charles Museum & Historical Association submit items to German exhibit

The St. Charles Museum & Historical Association recently compiled items to send to the Burg Landeck Foundation in Klingenmunster, Germany, birthplace of Gov. George Michael Hahn.

The foundation plans to open an exhibit honoring Hahn.

Corey Faucheux, director of Economic Development and Tourism for St. Charles Parish; Rita Carlson and Harriet Williamson, Board Members of SCMHA; Lorraine Gendron, artist who supplied the bust of Hahn, replicas of his china, and other works of art; and Rebecca Fischer, translator for the project, display some of the items being sent.

Shown are several books, Germans of Louisiana donated by the German Coast Farmers’ Market; The SCMHA book, St. Charles Parish Louisiana, A Pictorial History, and Louisiana’s German Coast, a History of St. Charles Parish by Henry E. Yoes, III.  Other items sent included a scholarly booklet on the life of Gov. George Michael Hahn by Dr. Alan Baker and Dr. Vaughan Simpson of ULL, containing the most complete information available on Hahn.

Other items sent were copies of items from the SCMHA exhibit about Gov. Hahn that are displayed in the Courthouse lobby, and genealogical information about Hahn’s family in Louisiana.
