Guild announces monthly artists, January workshop details

The St. Charles Art Guild is preparing for its second workshop, “Landscapes and Cityscapes with Pastels,” scheduled for Jan. 26 through Jan. 29. Alan Flatmann will lead the event as instructor. Flattmann is a native of New Orleans and studied at the John McCrady Art School in the French Quarter. He was to be inducted into the Pastel Society of America’s Hall of Fame in 2006 and the Masters Circle of the International Association of Pastel Societies in 2007.

The artist’s work is the subject of three books, “Alan Flattmann’s French Quarter Impressions,” “The Art of Pastel Painting” and “The Poetic Realism of Alan Flattmann.”

Flattmann’s goal is to teach his students a sound and fundamental approach to painting. The workshop will be an intensive period of study and cover, step-by-step the most important phases of landscape and cityscape painting with pastels. Flattmann will share the secrets of the tools and techniques he has developed over many years.

He will show how he hand prepares many of his own pastel materials and demonstrate the techniques he uses for his bold pastel paintings.

The meeting will be held in the Fellowship Hall of the First Union Presbyterian Church on Lakewood Dr. in Luling.
