Guild announces monthly artists, May workshop details

The St. Charles Art Guild will meet on Tuesday, May 5 at the First United Presbyterian Church, 134 Lakewood Dr. in Luling. There will be a short business meeting at 10:30 am with a covered dish luncheon following at 11:00 am.

This month’s program will be a social and the installation of the new officers for the coming term.

The officers to be installed are: Laurie Abadie, President; Sophie Hava, Vice President; Shirley Jones, Recording Secretary; Marie Weiler, Corresponding Secretary; Joan Longo, Treasurer, and Mary Sue Carter as Grants Treasurer. All are welcome!

The St. Charles Art Guild will hold their third workshop on May 18 through 21, instructed by Mae Niolet.The title of the watercolor workshop is “Watercolors – Idea Development, Composition and Color Schemes.”

Mae is a native of Mississippi and holds a bachelor of fine arts from Mississippi University for Women and a masters of arts administration form the University of New Orleans.

Mae has been teaching in the Fine Art and Visual Communications programs at Delgado Community College for 28 years.

Mae will present a 4-day workshop in watercolor with an emphasis on idea development, composition and color schemes.

The first two days will include class painting exercises in value and negative/positive space. The last two days will include exercises in color schemes as well as an emphasis on the design principles.

Participants will combine organic and inorganic objects to create compositional studies and strengthen their pictorial organization and idea development.

This approach to painting using watercolor will give both the beginner and experienced painter more confidence in using the design principles and a basis on which to make color choices.

Registration for this workshop will begin at the April 7 meeting of the St. Charles Art Guild.

The meeting will be held in the Fellowship Hall of the First Union Presbyterian Church on Lakewood Drive in Luling.
