Jordan to teach January workshop

The St. Charles Art Guild has scheduled a watercolor workshop, Luminous Light: Glazing to Create Beautiful Landscapes, for Feb 18 – 20 at the First Union Presbyterian Church in Luling.

The workshop instructor will be Lou Jordan of New Orleans. Lou is a signature member of the Louisiana Watercolor Society (LWS) and won the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts Faculty Award for Watercolor. She has studied with many nationally recognized artists. One of her paintings appeared in the International Artist’s Magazine’s book, 100 Ways to Paint Flowers and Gardens.

Participants of the workshop will create a painting using photographs as a reference. They will learn how to compose a work of art that is not a copy of a photo, but use the photo as a base reference.

They will take it from a thumbnail sketch through a value drawing, and choosing a color chord for the finished painting. Artists will do a detailed drawing, transferring the drawing onto the watercolor paper. They will then prepare the paper with several very transparent glazes to create atmosphere and mood, and finally with the previously chosen limited palette, paint the creation.

For more information about this workshop, please contact Evelyn W. Dupuy, 785-0257 or Carol Fors 764-3528.

This program is supported by a grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism in cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts Council as administered by the Houma Regional Arts Council.
