Sherry Hymel volunteered for Girl Scouts worldwide

Girl Scouts volunteer and Norco resident Sherry Hymel received special recognition during Girl Scouts Louisiana East’s annual Adult Recognitions event on April 24 in Gonzales.

Hymel was the recipient of the Thanks Badge which recognizes an adult member whose performance is truly outstanding and benefits the total council or the entire Girl Scout Movement.

A 28-year volunteer for Girl Scouts, Hymel was a troop leader in Japan and Italy and served as Girl Scout trainer in Germany.

She was a troop leader and co-leader in LaPlace, and served in many leadership positions for the St. Charles Service Unit 216 including service unit administrator, core delegate to the national Girl Scout convention, and committee member during the council’s realignment.

Hymel received first aid training in the Navy and shares her knowledge with other Girl Scout volunteers as a council first aid trainer.

Council-level adult recognitions include the Appreciation Pin, Honor Pin, Thanks Badge, President’s Award, Years of Service Pin, Outstanding Religious Leader Award, and Outstanding Principal Award.
