Seniors can apply for Sheriff’s scholarship

Sheriff Greg Champagne will award a scholarship providing assistance to a worthy St. Charles Parish student in furthering their education and training with resources made available throught the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Honorary Membership Program. It will be awarded to a graduating high school student.

“This scholarship program is a meaningful expression of the program’s respect for education. It demonstrates our confidence in Louisiana’s youth…our future leaders,” said Champagne, who is also the program chair.

Scholarships of a maximum of $500 each will be awarded.

There are no restrictions on the purposes for which scholarship funds are spent.

They are not loans and will be awarded as gifts to defray the rising cost of tuition and related expenses in higher education.

Applicants must be permanent residents of Louisiana, the scholarships must be used in higher education within the state of Louisiana and students must be enrolled in a full-time undergraduate program.

Completed applications must be submitted to the Sheriff by April 1, 2011. Winners will be announced on May 1.

“Louisiana Sheriffs are pleased with the program’s ability to bring scholarship to Louisiana students bound for higher education,” Champagne said. “To continue to do so and fund other important projects and initiatives, continued support of the Honorary Membership Program is essential.”
