Satellite Center to hold open house on Feb. 3

The Satellite Center will be holding an open house on Feb. 3 from 5-8 p.m.

Lasca Anderson, administrator at the center, said that the open house is an opportunity for interested middle school students and their parents to come in and see what is offered.

“They can visit whichever courses they’re interested in,” Anderson said. “It’s very important that they start early if they’re interested in coming.”

The center gives junior and senior students in St. Charles Parish an opportunity to get specific training in certain career paths.

Students, or team members, will be at the event to talk to visitors about projects they have done and the program that they are involved in.

Anderson said it’s especially important for incoming 9th grade students because they need to choose their classes carefully if they intend to take classes at the center later in high school.

The open house is not just for parents and students, though. Anderson said it is also an opportunity for the community to see what happens at the center.

“We’ve been here and people still don’t understand what we do,” she said. “We want them to have an opportunity to see projects that the team members have worked on. It gives everybody an opportunity to learn more about the place because a lot is taught here.”

The center offers courses in culinary arts, digital media, engineering, health, patient care, process technology and hospitality.

Call the center at (985) 785-2080 for more information.
