Maddison LeBlanc has been named 2016 – 17 Satellite Center STAR (Students Teaching and Reaching) Student of the Year.
LeBlanc earned this honor by receiving the top score from an interview process. A senior at Hahnville High School, she is planning to attend Nicholls State University in the fall to major in secondary history education.
Throughout the STAR program, she dedicated herself to service learning projects and to learning as much as she can about the education field. Some of her accomplishments in the course have included creating lessons for Head Start where she reads to the students and guides them through a literacy activity.
She was also part of a team that delivered a presentation on classroom management as part of the New Tech Network Project Spotlight when the Hewlett Foundation visited the Satellite Center. LeBlanc also helped her team members collect donations which were given to teachers at Springfield Middle School in Livingston Parish who were affected by the fall flooding.
