RJ Vial in top 10 for Leukemia Fundation fundraising

R.J. Vial Elementary School in Paradis ranked No. 8 in the state in their fundraising efforts for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. They raised over $4,200 dollars.

The top fundraising classes were Laura Gardebled’s 5th grade class and Virginia Morgan’s 6th grade class. Principal Jacqueline Sperier said that the students were very motivated by a guest they had at the fundraiser’s kick-off. The guest was Mia, the daughter of Loree LeBoeuf who attends church with Sperier. Mia had Leukemia and lost her hair – it will never grow back.

“The kids were inspired and touched by Mia’s presence and story,” Sperier said. “They loved to see her daily on the poster from LLS hanging in the hallways of our school…they would ask about her constantly.”

Sperier said that she is very excited to have R.J. Vial be in the top 10 and thinks that fundraisers like this are important.

“Hosting fundraisers like these allow our students to see how one person, one organization, or one group of people can make a difference,” she said. “It promoted teamwork for a worthy cause and it showed how working together made our goal of getting in the top 10 of Louisiana attainable.”
