Hundreds walked to help cancer research
Hundreds of parishioners came out to walk around the West Bank Bridge Park track and raise money to fight cancer during the annual Relay for Life. Thirty-one teams competed this year to raise a total of $24,000.
Audrey Raziano, chairperson of the event, said that Relay is a great way for people to honor those who have survived cancer, remember those who lost their battle to cancer and fight for those who are still fighting.
The overnight event was held April 16-17 this year and was better than last year with calm, comfortable weather. At Relay, teams of people camp out and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event because cancer never sleeps. This year’s theme was “Relay goes around the world” and the campsites around the tracks each reflected a different country.
