Recipients of HHS Class of 1957 Anniversary scholarship named

Christine Rene’ Ortego and Mr. Evan Louis Boyer were named the seventh and eighth recipients of the Hahnville High School Class of 1957 Anniversary Scholarships Friday night, May 21, at Hahnville High School’s graduation ceremony held in the John A. Alario Center in Westwego.

These $2,500 scholarships are awarded to students who will enter the freshman class at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.  One $2,500 scholarship is for a student entering the educational field, to insure the development of teachers who will continue to promote the importance of education.

One $2500 scholarship is for a student entering the engineering field, to provide a basis for continual technical contributions from Hahnville High School graduates.  The two annual recipients will apply their awards to their freshman year at UL-L.  The scholarships are in recognition of the excellent preparation that Hahnville High School teachers, coaches and principals provided for the class of 1957, and in recognition of the 1957 classmates who shared in that educational experience.  These scholarships are awarded on an annual basis.  This year marks the 53rd anniversary of the HHS Class of 1957.

Christine Rene’ Ortego graduated Magna Cum Laude and was on the Superintendent’s List and Principal’s List.  She was a member of the Beta Club, National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society, Yearbook and Student Council.

Christine was selected as a Kick-Off Mentor for freshman students.  She participated as manager of the Volleyball Team for two years.  She is the daughter of James and Sandy Ortego of Luling.  Christine plans to attend the University of Louisiana-Lafayette and major in Education.

Evan Louis Boyer graduated Magna Cum Laude and was on the Superintendent’s List.  He was a member of the Beta Club, National Honor Society and Student Council. He was vice-president of the French Club.  He participated in Science Olympiad.  Evan is also active in his church as a reader. He is the son of Lyle and Jean Boyer of Paradis.  Evan plans to attend the University of Louisiana-Lafayette and major in Petroleum Engineering.
