‘Read for the Record’ campaign led by Satellite Center students

The Satellite Center’s STAR team members participated in Jumpstart’s International Read for the Record campaign on by reading the campaign book, Otis by Loren Long to 580 preschool and kindergarten students in St. Charles Parish public schools and Holy Family Preschool.

Read for the Record is a one day campaign designed to highlight the importance of early literacy skills and providing books to young children.

As part of the campaign, STAR students rehearsed reading the book and developed literacy questions for pre-reading, during reading and post reading comprehension.

They then engaged the preschool and kindergarten students in an activity which correlated to the book’s themes. Otis is a story about the friendship between a tractor and a young calf. The children, as well as the STAR students, really enjoyed themselves.
