R.K. Smith teacher of the year

R.K. Smith Middle School’s 2012-2013 Teacher of the Year is Rachel Levet Hafford. Hafford graduated summa cum laude from Louisiana State University in May of 2008.

She still attends Louisiana State University as a graduate student and is on track to earn her master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction: Mathematics Education by the end of 2013. She began her teaching career in St. Charles Parish at R.K. Smith in August of 2008 and currently teaches seventh grade mathematics, but is also qualified to teach 1st-5th grades, middle school language arts and secondary mathematics.

Hafford is a member of the School Improvement Team, serving as the Improving Student Learning cadre leader. In addition, she is the 7th grade team leader and has co-chaired the mathematics department since 2010. Hafford is a member of the Louisiana Middle School Association and Louisiana Association of Computer Using Educators. In 2010, LACUE awarded her the Region I Middle School Teacher of the Year Award.
