Local man honored for 55 years of service with the Hahnville Lion’s Club

Rene Champagne, a member of the Hahnville Lion’s Club, was recently honored with an award for serving in the organization for 55 years.

Governor of Lions District 8S John Landry presented Champagne with the Milestone Chevron Award.

“I get many years of service awards that I present, but this is my first of 55 years of service,” Landry said. “We don’t have many like this. I spent many years eating breakfast with Rene and others from Luling, Hahnville and others from St. Charles Parish. They are the best people in the world.”

Landry said that Champagne was sponsored by the late Lion’s Club member Judge Edward Dufresne in 1966. The Lion’s Club is the largest service organization in the world, with clubs in over 200 countries and 1.4 million members worldwide.
