Norco Civic Association members recognized for efforts to provide safe sidewalks for students

Members of the Norco Civic Association were recently recognized by Parish President V.J. St. Pierre for their efforts beginning in 2008 for the construction of safe sidewalks in Norco.

In 2009 St. Charles Parish submitted an application as sponsor of the project  for the construction of a sidewalk along Fifth and Spruce streets in Norco, sidewalk construction and repairs on the nearby schools’ grounds, crosswalks, signage and other non-infrastructure items.

Pursuant to that application the St. Charles Parish Safe Routes to School Program application focusing on the Norco area was selected for funding in the amount of $272,212.

According to St. Pierre, the Norco Civic Association’s efforts and support greatly contributed to the ultimate success of a project to construct a safer and healthier transportation option for not only the children attending the schools, but for all residents of Norco.

“The Norco Civic Association went on record as being in full support of the project by way of letter citing the importance of the sidewalk to the community emphasizing the use of the sidewalk by the children who attend the schools along Fifth Street,” St. Pierre’s recognition letter reads.
