Norco Christmas Parade set for Dec. 6

The Christmas season will begin in the River Parishes on Sunday, Dec. 6 as the Norco Christmas Parade rolls for the eighth straight year.

The parade will start at 2 p.m. at River Road and Apple Street.  It will travel north on Good Hope Street, west on Sixth Street and south on Apple Street, disbanding at River Road.

The theme of this year’s parade is “Norco Noel: Christmas on the River,” and will reflect the many River Parishes traditions.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive by helicopter on the east bank levee at approximately 1:45 p.m. to take their place behind a wide array of floats, trucks, antique cars, marching groups, horse riders, pageant queens and the bands from Destrehan High School, Harry Hurst Middle School and Riverside Academy.

The Destrehan baseball team will conduct its annual food drive as well. Citizens are encouraged to bring canned goods to the parade route for collection.

A community celebration will follow at the Capital One Bank on Apple Street, with caroling and the lighting of the community Christmas tree.

Santa and Mrs. Claus also will be available for photographs with the children, who will receive a small gift from the couple.   Because of the discontinuance of instant film, residents are requested to bring their own cameras this year.
