The American Legion Auxiliary 195 in Norco held its Americanism Essay Contest this year with the theme “What is my patriotic role as a U.S. citizen?”
Local students participated in the contest and received certificates.
Students from Sacred Heart School included Regan Robert, Garrett Aehori**, Reese Clement, Alex Norris, Gracie Wise, Holden Brignac, Sarah Solito, Mallary Brignac, Elizabeth Champagne, Isabel Gort, Mary Nguyen, Kent Pfister, Carlos Gort and Faith Bolden.
Students from Harry Hurst Middle School included Alex Bryant, TyLasha Gusman, Jennifer McClendon, Michael Fogarty, Keston Blackman, Ryan, Brent Mashia, Brooklyn Babb, Cody Cambre and Fernando Fonseca.
Regan Robert, a 5th grade student, and Alex Bryant, an 8th grade student, won the contest and received cash awards and certificates.
Presenting the awards from American Legion Auxiliary 195 were Jane Donaldson, Americanism shairman, and Laure Mayeux, president.
The Auxiliary also presented a certificate of appreciation, $25 towards a bullet-proof vest and $50 personal gift to James Grimaldi of the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office for his outstanding service for the year.
Outstanding fireman of the year Joe Michael Barnes, of the Norco Fire Department, was also presented with a certificate of appreciation and $50 personal gift.
