New Royalty Chosen to represent the La. Catfish Festival

The Louisiana Catfish Festival Queens were chosen June 10, during the annual pageant held at Hahnville High School in Boutte.

Contestants were chosen by scores from categories including interview, sportswear, evening gown, and an on stage question and answer for the Miss contestants.

Courtney Elizabeth Soudelier, 18, of Des Allemands was named La. Catfish Queen XXXI, and Michelle Mary Fonseca, 14, of Des Allemands, was named La. Catfish Teen Queen XI.

Courtney, the daughter of Lloyd and Lurecki Soudelier also was awarded sportswear.  Courtney will be attending LSU in the fall as a freshman, where she will focus on a degree in secondary math education.  She enjoys reading, scrap booking and shopping.  Courtney is looking forward to her year as the new La. Catfish Queen XXXI and traveling throughout the state of Louisiana to represent her festival.

Michelle, the daughter of Herman and Danelle Fonseca was also awarded sportswear.  Michelle is a sophomore at Central Lafourche High School.  She loves to dance, sing, and play the flute.  Michelle is very excited about her year ahead and will travel with her Miss Queen as much as possible to represent her festival.

Kimberly Baudoux of Des Allemands sold many raffle tickets to acquire her title.  She is looking forward to her reign as the 2006-2007 La. Catfish Jr. Queen XXIV.

The first annual Granny Catfish winner is Miss Virgie “Plunk” Naquin.  She was chosen by the loudest cheer of the crowd.  She is a symbol of hard work, dedication and commitment to her festival for over 32 years.
