New program brightens day of nursing home residents

Valentines poured in to the Ashton Manor assisted living and memory care facility in Luling last Saturday thanks to the implementation of a new online system.

Ashton Manor created a website where friends and relatives can send a personalized valentine greeting to residents over the holiday.

“We’re happy to make it possible for our residents to really feel the love on Valentine’s Day from the people they care about the most, even if distance makes it impossible for them to be together that day,” said Ashton Manor Executive Director Jay Tipton.

According to Tipton, the website allows for a customer message as well as a photo. On Valentine’s Day, the facility then printed out the valentines and delivered them to the residents.

“The messages have been so kind and uplifting,” Tipton said. The success of the program exceeded “even the highest expectations,” according to Tipton. As a result of the success, Tipton said there are tentative plans to expand the program to other holidays and events. He said the he hopes to implement “ideas that will continue to bring love letters to the Ashton Manor community year round.”

Open since 2012, Ashton Manor is a part of Schonberg and Associates network of assisted living and memory care needs facilities throughout Louisiana, Mississippi and South Carolina.
