St. Charles Parish District Attorney Harry Morel sponsored a Thanksgiving dinner for senior citizens on Nov. 14 at the Shriner’s Jerusalem Temple in Destrehan.
“Usually we have about 300 to 400 people,” Morel said. “We’ve hosted the dinner for 24 years and we love giving back to the community.”
The event included musical performances from Blanche Newsome, the Shriner’s Ensemble Jazz Band, and soloist Becky Matherne.
On hand to mingle with the elders in the parish were candidates facing runoff elections and some newly appointed officials.
Buddy Caldwell, a candidate for attorney general, was among those making election rounds.
