Montz native to celebrate 100th birthday

Josephine Bering will be honored Sunday, March 13, as she, her family and friends celebrate her 100th birthday party at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Reserve. Born to Harriet and Edward Joseph on March 15, 1916 in Montz, she married Earnest Bering in Houston, Tex. She was baptized in Algiers and is now a member of New Pilgrim Bethlehem Baptist Churches under the leadership of her son, Pastor Forell Bering Sr. She is the oldest member of her churches.

Bering spent much of her life in Norco and currently lives in LaPlace.

Bering and her late husband Earnest had five children: Michael, Earnest, Edward, Forell and Betty. She also has four adopted children, Ann, Earl, Melvin and Rashan.

She worked as a cook for Shell Oil and Dobb’s Airline Catering Service until her retirement.

She gets up every Sunday morning to attend church services and is a member of the Usher Board.

“The secret to life is getting up, going to church and staying out of trouble,” Josephine Bering said.

She has a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Bethlehem Baptist Church is located at 147 20th St. in Reserve.
