Luling Elementary’s Loving Angels

Volunteers from New Life Community Church are sharing love through service at Luling Elementary School. Each Wednesday, kindergarten classes at LES welcome two volunteers to assist with extra practice on skills in reading and writing. Teachers welcome the volunteers, especially since more than half of them are retired teachers.

Jennifer Green, coordinator of church services says they just want to serve the community, and although they are fortunate to have several retired teachers volunteering their time to this initiative, they do not have to have teaching experience to get involved and make a difference – all that’s needed is a willingness to serve and make a difference. Volunteers with little or no prior teaching experience are paired with veteran teachers, and detailed activity instructions are provided by the classroom teachers. Luling Elementary calls them Luling’s Loving Angels, an appropriate name to say the least.
