Joseph “Jessie” Louviere of Paradis turned 100 years old on Dec. 6 and was honored at the Parish Council meeting.
Originally raised in Gheens, LA, Louviere moved to Boutte as a younger man and then to Paradis where he now lives.
Louviere worked in the oil field and also did personal farming, according to his son Joseph Louviere Jr.
While Louviere was a hard-working man, Joseph Jr. said his father liked to have fun, too.
“He used to love to dance. He wasn’t the best, but he got out there and shook his legs,” Joseph Jr. said. “If he could do it now, he’d be up there trying.”
Joseph Jr. said his father is still very much young at heart.
Louviere celebrated a century of love, laughter and memories on his birthday at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church Hall in Paradis.
Louviere is a husband to Alice Laughlin, and a father to five children: Mary Gros, Peggy Sanchez, Naomi Griffin, Joseph Jr. and David Louviere. He is a grandfather to 17, a great-grandfather to 30 and a great-great grandfather to 10.
