Local gym owner earns prestigious national honor

Anytime Fitness, a national gym franchise, recently honored Jennifer Perkins, franchisee owner of two local Anytime Fitness gyms in St. Charles Parish, as the company’s “Club Operator of the Year” at its annual conference in Nashville.

Perkins was chosen from more than 2,100 Anytime Fitness clubs nationwide.

Dave Mortensen, president of Anytime Fitness, praised Perkins, who owns one gym in Luling with her husband Ricky Perkins and Scott Finnan, and another in Destrehan with her husband and their partners Richard and Michelle Oubre, for her “commitment to serving others in her community” and her “dedication to helping people of all fitness levels get to a healthier place.”

Among many other initiatives, Perkins’ community-oriented activities include participating in the United Way Bridge Run, where members of her two gyms and her staff have raised nearly $10,000 each of the past several years; warming up the athletes at Special Olympic events twice a year; organizing “Zumba-thons and Ride-a-thons” to raise money for St. Charles Parish residents who are coping with various illnesses; and participating in a half-a-dozen or so community health fairs each year.

“Jennifer is one of those rare business owners who puts helping others ahead of profits,” said Chuck Runyon, CEO of Anytime Fitness. “In particular, she and her team spend a lot of time and effort helping seniors in the community enjoy life to the fullest by welcoming them into her clubs and teaching them how to stay active and lead the healthiest lifestyles possible.”

Anytime Fitness corporate executives also commended Perkins for her work with students.

“We learned that her team not only volunteered to participate in a local high school’s career day, she and her team also agreed to assist students on their senior projects, focusing on how to become a personal trainer or instructor,” said Mortensen.

Other projects that Perkins and her staff have organized or participated in include free outdoor boot camps for members and non-members alike; monthly potlucks for the seniors to celebrate their birthdays; hosting open houses for senior citizens to promote increased activity levels; hosting a blood drive; and donating money to countless school and recreational teams.

Perkins shares her clubs’ success with her husband and their business partners, as well as every team member who has worked with them over the past eight years.

Perkins’ clubs also rank high, compared to other Anytime Fitness clubs, in terms of daily visits by members and member satisfaction.

Nearly 2,500 Anytime Fitness franchisees, corporate staffers, club managers and personal trainers attended the company’s recent annual conference – and they all gave Perkins a standing ovation when she was announced as the “Club Operator of the Year.”
