Local church celebrates “Law Enforcement Appreciation Day”

New Life Community Church, the joint ministries of Luling United Methodist Church and First Union Presbyterian Church, recently hosted a special “Law Enforcement Appreciation” Sunday service.

Ten uniformed officers were in attendance and each were presented with a special “Law Enforcement Officer’s Bible”, as well as a Bible to be presented to the family of Deputy Sheriff Jeff Watson, who was killed in the line of duty in 2013. After the worship service, the church hosted a luncheon in honor of the officers.

Peace Officers Memorial Day was created in 1962 after President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation for the day that falls within “Police Week.” In observance of “Police Week”, the church held a service to show appreciation for the dedication of the hardworking men and women of the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office.
