Krewe royalty looking forward to reigning over parades

Royalty for the Krewe of Lul and Krewe of Des Allemands parades are excited to be participating in Mardi Gras traditions this weekend.

Derrill and Elaine Templet were named the king and queen of the Krewe of Lul.

They will lead the parade on Saturday, Feb. 13.

“As far as excitement, it is unreal,” Elaine said. “The whole thing has been so exciting and we’re just so excited to be doing this.”

The couple said they are ready for the parade and that they plan on having a reception at Riverdale for their family and friends afterward.

Their family will be riding behind them in the parade.

“We will be handing out a designed scroll. Our artwork is on it depicting Mardi Gras with our names and kids’ names and grandkids’ names,” Elaine said.

The two will be focusing on promoting the United States Post Office during the parade and will hand out commemorative letter openers.

“Everybody has something to do with the Post Office,” said Elaine, who is a retired Post Office employee.

The following day, Feb. 14, the Krewe of Des Allemands will roll with Arthur Schaubhut Jr. and Earline Naquin Schaubhut as king and queen.

The two said they were not expecting to be chosen but are very excited that they were.

“We have our float ready to ride in the parade on Sunday,” Earline said.

The couple is not new to riding in Mardi Gras parades, though.

“We have been in parades many times,” Earline said. “We’re used to that, but we have never been king and queen before.”
