After the disappointment of the Krewe of Lul cancellation the past two years due to inclement weather, Glynn Boyd is more excited than ever to be the parade’s grand marshal for the 2013 parade.

“I was heartbroken – the anticipation was so great leading up to it and I didn’t realize at the time how special that moment could have been…and then to have it all dashed with terrible weather was really disappointing,” Boyd said. “I’ve been waiting for three years.”

Like the Krewe of Lul king and queen, Boyd will have yet another chance to reign over the parade.

Boyd said he has secured a convertible and a tuxedo and is now just waiting until the parade can roll.

“I’m just looking forward to it, the third time is a charm,” Boyd said. “I’m looking forward to seeing so many people, a lot of people I grew up and went to school with and a lot of my former teachers and neighbors and friends are looking forward to it.”

Boyd was formerly a television news reporter and anchor for WGNO for 17 years before moving into a position as a public information officer for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Boyd, a Gretna resident, grew up in Boutte and graduated from Hahnville High School in 1980. During his school years in St. Charles Parish he was a student of both of the Sirmons.

In 2000, Boyd gave the commencement address at HHS and he puts being the grand marshal of the Krewe of Lul in the same category.

“I love to come back and do my part,” he said.

He said he was honored three years ago when he was asked to be the grand marshal.

“I’m a record setting grand marshal. I’ve been waiting for three years,” Boyd said. “I’m just excited and I just want to get it done.”

Over the past three years, Boyd has had cups made to commemorate his time as grand marshal. He will be throwing t-shirts as well.

“It’s going to say ‘Happy Mardi Gras Krewe of LUL 11’,12’ and 13’ and then on the bottom a cliché line of mine ‘yes, indeed,’” he said. “I’m getting excited and can’t wait.”
