J.B. Martin hosts Earth Day fair

Katie Bordelon’s 7th grade class at J.B. Martin Middle School organized and hosted an Earth Day celebration and recycling even on April 22 as part of a Global Youth Service Day project.

The class invited 4th grade students from R.J. Vial Elementary as well as other students from J. B. Martin, parents, and community members.

They presented booths on various environmental topics such as wetlands destruction, calculating carbon footprints and recycling. They also had a booth of live animals that the visitors could touch.

The students also planted about 50 trees on the campus with the help of other middle school students and elementary kids.

The funding for this event was provided through a grant form Youth Service America.
