Hospital welcomes new volunteer coordinators

The River Parishes Hospital recently announced and welcomed its new Auxiliary Officers for the 2010-2011 term. Pictured are incoming president, Jean Haas, vice-president, Sally Montz, treasurer, Ruby Anders, and secretary, Joan Ory.

Each year, the Auxiliary holds fundraisers to provide scholarships to high school students in the River Parishes area. In addition, they donate various items to the hospital in order to make the hospital’s patients and visitors more comfortable.

“We would like to thank our Auxiliary for all that they do for the hospital and our community,” said Tammy Waltz, Community Relations Coordinator. “They organize and work fundraisers throughout the year. They also provide gifts to patients who are in the hospital during the holidays.” Waltz continued, “We are fortunate to have such a dedicated group of people, as all of our Auxiliary members also serve as volunteers.”

Any adult who is 18 years old or over and who have completed their high school education are invited to become a part of the hospital’s Auxiliary and Volunteer group. Hospital volunteers have the opportunity to choose the area in which they would like to donate their time and are able to set their own hours in most areas. Volunteers work on many of the nursing units and in the Surgery Waiting area, as well as in the Gift Shop and Admitting Department.

“Some of our volunteers have enjoyed careers as homemakers and others have spent years in an office,” said Waltz.
