West St. Charles Baptist Church in Boutte time to remember the veterans who have passed and honor those that remain
Amidst the excitement of Independence Day, members of Boutte’s West St. Charles Baptist Church took time to honor and remember our local veterans and their commitment to our country.
On Saturday, June 28 the church organized an awards ceremony and spaghetti dinner for veterans of the VFW Post 3750 and the American Legion Post 131 organizations and their families.
The presentation of colors by the Hahnville High School color guard followed a welcome message from event organizer Donna Guice.
“The evening was a huge success,” said Guice. “The community chorus was there to sing ‘God Bless America’ and Craig Melancon performed ‘Taps.’”
“Awards were presented to our oldest and youngest veteran, and the veteran with the most years of service,” she said. “And everyone complimented our teenage members who helped serve the veterans.”
Guest speakers included VFW Post 3750 Commander Charles Cancienne and American Legion Post 131 Commander John Kopple.
Guise says that the church will expand next year’s celebration to include all local veterans.
