Hi-Stepper Parent Club thanks community for support & fundraising

Raffle winner used granny’s name for good luck

Duanne Cazalot of Destrehan says her late grandmother was always very lucky. Cazalot’s statement was proved again as her grandmother’s name was on the winning ticket pulled in the Hahnville Hi-Steppers Parent Club LSU Season Ticket raffle earlier this month.

“I always write my granny’s name on any type of raffle drawing,” Cazalot said. “She’s helped me win many times!”

Cazalot bought the ticket from freshman Hi-Stepper Kate Prendergast who, along with several other dance team members, takes classes at Cazalot’s Dance Unlimited dance studio in Paradis.

The LSU Season Ticket raffle was the parent club’s major effort to raise funds for the Hi-Steppers’ trip in November to participate in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade in New York.

According to Brett Cazanave, Parent Club fundraising coordinator, a few thousand tickets were sold for the raffle, most in our local community and the metro New Orleans area, with some from as far away as California.

“We really want to thank the local community for supporting our efforts with this raffle and supporting Hi-Steppers overall,” said Parent Club President Elray Boudreaux.

Many local businesses donated goods and services in association with the raffle. The tickets were donated by St. Charles Printing.

Tiger’s Den hosted the raffle party over Labor Day weekend.

In addition, local businesses donated gift certificates which were used as door prize items for the raffle party, including Pep Boys Auto Parts, El Mexicano Restaurant, Tiger Town Gifts, Quick Stop Oil Change and Car Wash, The Basketry, and Sunshine Nails & Spa.

While the LSU ticket raffle was the major fundraiser, the Parent Club is continuing to raise funds to defray costs of the New York trip.

The group is still selling refillable mugs and drink koozies with a purple and gold “Geaux Tigers” design before Hahnville home football games in September.

The mugs are 22 ounces and will sell for $6 each or two for $10.

The mugs can be refilled at Hahnville football games concession stands for $2. The koozies will sell for $2 each. Mugs and koozies can also be purchased from any Hi-Stepper parent.

Parent Club selling concessions Sept. 24 at festival

The Hi-Steppers Parent Club will be selling concessions for the Thursday Rides Night Sept. 24 at this year’s Alligator Festival.

Festival goers can purchase hamburgers and hot dogs from the Parent Club booth Thursday night.

Proceeds from Thursday’s sales will help defray costs of the dance team’s trip and participation in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade in New York this November.

The Parent Club will also once again be selling concessions Friday through Sunday of the Alligator Fest.

This is one of the Parent Club’s annual fundraising efforts that support ongoing dance team activities throughout the year.
