Hello Health series offers outlet to learn

In an effort to provide another outlet for members of the community to learn about their health, St. Charles Parish Hospital will be hosting the Hello Health seminar series on Sept. 27.

Dr. Sheena Pullman, who specializes in obstetrics and gynecology, will be the guest speaker. Her presentation will center on illustrating the most common signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer and she will also review the most current screening guidelines.

The seminar will begin at noon.

Ochsner spokeswoman Whitney Jeffreys said six to seven Hello Health seminars are held each month throughout the greater New Orleans area. Each one is roughly 90 minutes and include lunch, the speaker’s speech including a PowerPoint presentation and a question-and-answer session. Those attending can also set up an appointment to see a physician.

At each seminar, a relevant health topic or medical trend is discussed by an Ochsner physician or healthcare expert.

“For someone who might not be able to see a physician at a particular time, it gives them the opportunity to come and ask specific questions,” Jeffreys said. “Maybe the person has an issue and wants to see what a physician might say about it. Anyone in the community can come in, ask questions and schedule appointments. Or you might come in, learn more about what you’re dealing with, and find out no appointment is necessary.”

Hello Health has been an ongoing series and has touched on a variety of topics — at a July seminar held in St. Charles Parish, for example, the discussion centered on pain management and advances in treatment of chronic pain. The speaker was Dr Domenick Grieshaber, a pain management specialist. Another seminar was held by Dr. Tlaloc Alferez, titled “Germs: Why Do We Need Them?”

Jeffreys said the seminar series has yielded a lot of positive feedback from those who have attended.

“It’s why we’ve continued to do them,” Jeffreys said. “We’ve been doing them well over a year and it just offers another option to the people of or community to learn about their health.”

Attendance is free of charge. A complimentary light lunch will be served.

To register, call 1-855-312-4189 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
