Harry Hurst Band and Choir get the gold at competition

Some 46 Harry Hurst Middle School students, 16 chaperones and three directors traveled to Atlanta, Ga., to compete in an Atlanta festival.

The HMS Choir and HMS Band both received a Gold rating, the highest in the competition.

The judges were complimentary of both groups, and impressed with the level of musicianship and teaching coming from the school.

In addition to the wonderful performances by both groups, Harry Hurst eighth grader Jonathan Dahl received the Ovation Award for Excellence in Music and the Arts.

This is an award given to one student who represents his community and school through his/her dedication to the arts, leadership, achievements and citizenship.  He was chosen out of over 300 students that attended the Festival.

The students also visited the World of Coke, attended “Matilda” the musical at the famous Fox Theatre, Six Flags, and the Georgia Aquarium.
