Hair-raising experience

Students learned firsthand how static electricity is created and travels in Barry Guillot’s science class at Harry Hurst Middle.

Eighth grade student Tanner Allen manually turned a generator crank creating a charge as teacher Karen Madere was shocked when her hair stood straight up. The generator was purchased through a grant from the National Youth Leadership Council as part of an energy conservation service-learning project.
