Hahnville High School Teacher of the Year

Jeanne Nouri, an English III American literature teacher, has been selected Hahnville High School 2012-2013 Teacher of the Year.

Nouri spent nearly a decade-and-a-half in the business world before coming to Hahnville in 2003. Since her arrival at Hahnville High School nine years ago, she has had the opportunity to teach Freshman Experience, English I, English II, English III, English II/III,and English IV. With a B.S. in Journalism from The University of Southern Mississippi and a Master’s of Arts in Teaching from Southeastern Louisiana University, she has a background that allows for research-based instruction with “real world” applications.

Nouri is a member of the National Council of Teacher of English and the International Reading Association and serves at HHS as a Freshmen Mentor Teacher, English Tutor, English III Data Team Leader, ACT Committee member, Supervising Teacher for Student Teachers, Senior Project Mentor and can be seen at many of the school’s events whether it be a sporting event, dance, music concert or Senior Project Showcase.

“I feel it is very important that we, as teachers, see our students excel in something outside the classroom. My angels are very talented and I enjoy watching them perform” Nouri said.

Her personal interests are reading and traveling and she uses these experiences to enrich the team-based nature of her lessons. She has been on five continents and has visited over 40 countries, but her favorite place to explore is through the minds of her students. “One of the best parts of teaching English III is that through the various readings, we can be in Venice one day and California the next. Literature expands one’s mind and it is beautiful to hear the different perspectives that each of my readers brings to our class discussions,” Nouri said.

The faculty, staff and students of Hahnville have offered their support as she moves forward to the district-level consideration.
