Hahnville Hi-Steppers to march in Macy’s parade

Instead of gathering around the dinner table with family, the Hahnville High School Hi-Steppers dance team will be dancing in the streets of New York City this Thanksgiving.

The team will be performing in the 83rd Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Hi-Steppers sponsor Holley Johnson said the girls are all excited to perform in the parade.

“This is a great opportunity for them to not only meet dancers from throughout the country, but to also work with top-notch choreographers and to see the sites of New York City,” Johnson said in a press release.

Elray Boudreaux, president of the Hi-Stepper Parent Club, said the parent club has worked hard to raise money for the trip.

“When we kicked off our fundraising efforts for the girls’ New York trip last spring, we received so much support from the St. Charles Parish community,” Boudreaux said.  “We wanted to thank them and let them know how they can see the girls in the parade.”

Boudreaux said the best chance of seeing the girls on TV is to tune into the local NBC affiliate, which is WDSU in New Orleans and the surrounding areas.

“They will not be performing as the Hahnville Hi-Steppers, but as part of the Mike Miller Dancers,” Boudreaux explained.

The team’s week-long trip will include a tour of the Statue of Liberty, tickets to see the revival of “West Side Story” on Broadway, a visit to the Empire State Building, ice skating at Rockefeller Center, a walk through Times Square, and tickets to watch the world-famous Rockettes dance in “Radio City Music Hall’s Christmas Spectacular.”

Boudreaux added that Hahnville Tiger football fans should not worry about the team missing the scheduled football game on Nov. 27. The team plans to return home in time to perform for the quarter finals round playoff football game that night if the Tigers continue their winning streak.
