Girl Scout Cadettes Hailey Dinkins, Catelyn Errington and Margo Matherne in Hahnville Troop 20554 earned the Girl Scout Silver Award, the highest award a registered Girl Scout Cadette in grades 6-8 can achieve.
Earning the Girl Scout Silver Award exemplifies a Girl Scout’s commitment to helping others and making a difference in their community. The Girl Scout Silver Award requires the completion of a series of leadership challenges that prepares them for their final “take action” project that involves approximately 50 hours of work.
The three cadets realized that their local no kill shelter had many needs so they held a blanket donation drive at their school, made cat scratchers for the shelter, and created an informational power-point about pet issues and adoption, which they shared via social media, blog and with service unit volunteers. Project adviser was Denise Matherne.
