Girl Scouts looking for members, volunteers

There are many pathways for girls and adults to become involved with Girl Scouts.

The traditional troop pathway gives girls an opportunity to participate with a group of friends who explore different activities and interests with the guidance of adult mentors who serve as troop leaders, co-leaders, or program volunteers in camping, cookie sales, special events or interest programs.

The travel pathway offers girls leadership opportunities and cross-cultural understanding through local, regional, national and international travel with adult volunteers who have an interest in travel.

The camp pathway allows girls to experience the out-of-doors through summer day camps, year-round weekend camping or summer resident camp.

All camping experiences need trained adults to guide girls as they progress from camping close to home to camping farther away.

The events pathway provides leadership opportunities and fun activities to girls through council sponsored programs and events where adult volunteers can help to plan and participate.

Whatever a girl decides to do, adult volunteers are needed to mentor her through the Girl Scout Leadership Experience where girls discover their interests, connect with others in their communities, and take action to make the world a better place.

Adults can also volunteer to work indirectly with girls by assisting in product sales, being program liaisons or helping with clerical work on the troop or service unit level, as well as with the council.

Dads, empty-nesters, young adults, and professionals are all encouraged to become Girl Scout volunteers.

Free training and support is provided by council staff and experienced volunteers. Annual membership is $12 for both girls and adults.
