German Coast Farmers Market holds annual Kid Krewe du Market parade

The German Coast Farmers Market held its Kid Krewe du Market Mardi Gras parade Saturday – the first since 2019 and the first at the market’s new Destrehan library location.

“We didn’t have one in 2020 and 2021 due to covid, and in 2022 many residents were still recovering from Ida,” Mary Keller, a member of the farmers’ market board, said. “We try to have a special event quarterly that is fun for both kids and parents.”

Keller said the parade is a great opportunity for the community to get together and have a little family fun. This year the parade was led by Jannett Cancella of Bees are my Business.

Ray Francois, 3, from Boutte reigned as king, and the queen was Brynlee Burge, 6, of Destrehan. Accompanying the queen was her sister, Laykin Sumrall, 3.

Frankie and Edie Naquin of Bayou Gauche won first place in the float contest, while Mason and Emma Matherne of Luling took home second place. Cohen Oubre of Norco won third place in the float contest, and Stella Le Jeune of Pearl River won fourth place.
