Destrehan woman honored by local Girl Scouts

A garden party theme set the stage for Girl Scouts Louisiana East’s annual Adult Recognitions event held in New Orleans’ City Park on May 21, honoring the dedication and commitment of its adult volunteers, as well as the contributions made by religious leaders and school principals.

The council level adult recognitions include the Appreciation Pin, Honor Pin, President’s Award, Thanks Badge II, Years of Service Pin, Outstanding Principal Award, and Outstanding Religious Leader Award. Girl Scout volunteer Victoria Kahl of Destrehan was among the adult volunteers receiving special recognition at the event.

A grown-up Girl Scout, Kahl was recognized for her continued efforts to produce the council’s wildly popular Patch-of-the-Month program for a second year. She originally created the program as a year-long service project for the council during her senior year in high school, but because of its popularity among Girl Scouts and leaders, she eagerly agreed to continue the program for another year, creating a variety of new activities to coordinate with the different Patches associated with each month’s theme. No other patch program has been as successful as this one in the council’s history.
