Destrehan moves on to face Higgins in third round

The Destrehan Wildcats took an early 10-0 first quarter lead over Ruston and were able to hold off a late Bearcat rally for a 17-10 victory.

Destrehan will now move on to face Higgins, who has won its first two playoff games by scores of 56-14 and 44-8, next Friday.

Even though the score was close, the Wildcats dominated offensively, racking up 331 yards. 169 of those came through the air, while 162 of them came on the ground.

Marshall Charles got the Wildcats on the board first after pushing the ball across the line from 1-yard out to give the Wildcats a 7-0 lead. Senior Ryan Rome then added three more points shortly after on a 30-yard field goal.

A 35-yard pass from Nick Rome to Thomas Davison allowed Ruston to cut into the Destrehan lead 10-7 in the second quarter, but the Wildcats increased the lead to 10 in the third on a 16-yard touchdown run by Henry Lenox.

Ruston could only manage a 29-yard field goal in the third and Destrehan was able to hold on for the win.
