Destrehan drummer invited to perform in Jan. 5 bowl game

Stephen Tumblin of Destrehan High School has been selected as a member of the inaugural U.S. Army All-American Marching Band, an honor celebrating the values and strengths these standouts share with Army Strong Soldiers. Tumblin will join a group of elite marching musicians selected to perform in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl halftime show on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008 at the Alamodome in San Antonio.

The U.S. Army All-American Marching Band recognizes the top 91 high school senior marching musicians from across the country and showcase their talents during the largest celebration of high school football in America, the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

This bowl event is the country’s premier high school football event, telecast live on NBC and featuring the nation’s top 84 high school senior football players.

“We are proud to recognize Stephen for his dedication and commitment to excellence in music,” said Colonel David Lee, Director of Strategic Communications, Marketing and Outreach for the U.S. Army Accessions Command.

“Our Army Strong Soldiers demonstrate loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity and personal courage, and Stephen has shown a similar dedication to his fellow band members while showcasing tremendous skill in music.”

Tumblin, a standout snare drummer at Destrehan High School, was presented an official invitation from the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Tuesday, Dec. 4.
