Church holds fundraiser for local elementary school

New Life Community Church, the joint ministry of Luling United Methodist & First Union Presbyterian, recently sponsored a “pencil drive” for Luling Elementary School.

During the weeks prior to school starting in St. Charles Parish, church members donated pencils and funds to purchase electric pencil sharpeners. Over 1,000 pencils were collected along with the funds to purchase nine heavy-duty electric pencil sharpeners for the classrooms. Donated items were delivered to Luling Elementary this week.

“The pencil drive was a very simple but meaningful way for church members to help make sure local students have the tools they need to be successful in the new school year,” Rev. Wayne Taylor said. “We are a caring community of faith growing disciples for Jesus Christ through worship, education, and service, and we’re committed to living, loving, and leading for Jesus Christ, not just within the walls of our church but within our larger community as well.”
