Change in parade route allows more people to view

The line-up and staging area for the Krewe of Lul parade will no longer be within the Angus Drive and Sugarhouse Road route as it has been in past years.

Instead, the floats, dance groups and other parade members will line up in the Winnwood Shopping Center on Paul Maillard Road just past the St. Charles Cemetery.

Parade organizer Debbie Dufrense-Vial says that the relocation of the area for the line up of floats and marching groups will allow more room for people who wish to view the parade do so.

“This change will facilitate the entire route for patrons to view the parade,” she continued. “The areas along Sugarhouse Road toward Luling Elementary, and St. Anthony Church toward the Ellington Swim Club on Angus Drive will not have floats parked, therefore parade goers will have additional places to go to watch the parade.”

The floats will now move out from the shopping center onto Paul Maillard and travel the traditional route onto River Road. From there the  parade will turn right onto Sugarhouse Road proceeding towards Angus Drive where it will take another right. The floats will then travel back to River Road, turn left and disband.

The change was recommended and approved by the St. Charles Parish Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with the Krewe of Lul, said Dufrense-Vial

“In the past year, various departments, emergency responders and hospital personnel met to discuss the route,” added Dufrense-Vial. “And this was determined to be the most feasible route.”

Riders and participants of the Krewe of Lul are working to implement this line-up change, but patrons are reminded that the actual route is the same.

“I’m sure that we’ll have some kinks to work out after this first year, but so far everyone participating in the parade is putting forth their best effort and adapting,” said Dufrense-Vial. “Hopefully we can improve on an already good and successful event for the citizens of St. Charles Parish.”
