Camera shootout 2.0

Reader-inspired photo contest now more user-friendly with online voting, picture uploads

After dozens of Herald-Guide reader comments and suggestions, the latest and greatest version of the Camera Shootout photo contest has arrived online, 24 hours a day at www.heraldguide.com.

Now you, our readers – both professional and amateur photographers alike, can upload your best shots directly to our Web site for a chance to win $500 at the end of the year when all monthly winners go head-to-head for the grandprize.

In its infancy stages, Camera Shootout contest entries trickled in, but now – nearly three years later – hundreds upon hundreds of your photos have been submited, making our contest one of the most interactive in its league. Who knew that St. Charles Parish was home to so many talented photographers!

From cute kids, local swampscapes and sunsets, to your fabulous furry friends and stunningly-unique scenes, we’ve seen it all – thanks to the ambitious talent of our local photographers.

And now that the Herald-Guide has upgraded the contest for online voting and photo uploads, submitting your pictures is easier than ever.

At the Herald-Guide homepage, you will see user-friendly links that will take you to our easy-to-use photo upload and voting forms.

Photo entries will also continue to be accepted by email submission until Dec. 31. Beginning on Jan. 1, 2010, all photos must be submitted online at www.heraldguide.com in order to be considered as an official  contest entry.
Each week, Herald-Guide editors will select five photos from all submissions received. These five photos will then be published in print along with your name and put to a reader vote on our Web site.

After seven days, the photograph with the most votes will be declared our weekly winner. During the fourth week in each month, all of that particular month’s winners will once again be voted on by our readers. The one with the most votes will be selected as the overall monthly winner.

The 12 monthly winners automatically will be eligible for the grandprize vote – and $500 cash award – when the year’s 12 best photographs are posted for two weeks in our final reader vote.

Photos will be selected from the pool entirely at the discretion of Herald-Guide editors.

All photos must be original work and, once submitted, can be used in Camera Shootout advertisements.
