Ballet star elected first president of dance company

DESTREHAN, La. – As the River Region Ballet’s Board of Directors prepared for their twelfth season, they elected their first president. The once fledgling organization originally operated wholly as a committee. The now seasoned company is preparing to heighten its goals with the election of Sarah Comiskey as the new president, and welcoming new board members.

The River Region Ballet has always taken pride not only in producing quality dance performances and education in the arts but also in the impact they have on young aspiring artists. Comiskey’s election is proof positive.

Susan Ferrara, founding and current Artistic Director, can not be more pleased.

“Here is a dancer who’s come full circle. I’ve watched her develop from “Clara” in the Nutcracker into Giselle’s Queen of the Wilis,” said Ferrara. “Here is a woman who is interested in imparting her experience to all the young dancers of the community. She has a vested interest in assuring the continuation of an organization which helped shape her life. She has experienced RRB from both sides, the artistic and the business, and she’s ready for this challenge.”

Sarah Comiskey trained at Images Dance Studio as both a student and assistant teacher. She received a New Orleans Junior Philharmonic key when she was only twelve. Comiskey is a charter member of the River Region Ballet and has performed as a soloist for many years. The LaPlace native graduated from Archbishop Chapelle High School in Metairie and Cum Laude from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Relations. She is currently employed as associate director of communications for the Archdiocese of New Orleans and is a member of the faculty at Images Dance Studio in Destrehan. As a member of the RRB’s board of directors she has served as Marketing Chair and as the company’s rehearsal assistant.
