Arts, cooking and children’s classes top Community Ed’s spring schedule

Registration is open until Feb. 28 for more than 150 classes with St. Charles Parish Public Schools Community Education.

The spring schedule will include new or returning additions, including a stronger arts lineup with classes such as “French Market Watercolor Painting” and “Louisiana Majestic Egret – oil painting.”

Popular courses, including cooking classes, belly dancing, sign language, knife skills and traveling on cruises will again be available in spring, as well as numerous children’s classes in cooking, painting and gardening.

“I think the objective of community education is to provide an outlet for those in the community who not only want to learn a particular subject, but also to get to know others,” said Jayne Tate, community education coordinator with the St. Charles Parish Public Schools’ Community Education Department. “It’s a fantastic resource for residents in and out of the parish. It’s just a wealth of information we’re offering.”

The overall schedule also offers a variety of classes that include fitness, cake decorating, dog obedience, duck decoy carving, photography, book publishing and juggling for beginners. Trade courses available will include a test refresher for medical coders, anyone interested in training as a substitute bus driver and grant writing. Business courses will include “Strong Women: Powerful Financial Strategies,” as well as estate planning and retirement planning.

Classes begin March 16 and are available to residents in St. Charles and surrounding parishes. Pre-registration is required for all classes.
