Cochran wins race for St. Charles Parish president

Larry Cochran, D-St. Rose, took the lead and kept it for a win as St. Charles Parish president with 8,829 votes over opponent Terry Authement, R-Boutte, who got 6,914 votes in today’s runoff race. With all 44 precincts reporting to the state’s Secretary of State in the general election, Cochran won with 56.58 percent of the vote compared to Authement’s 43.92 percent.

Earlier today while still campaigning, Cochran thanked supporters for their help in the election.

“Thank you to everyone who has helped with this campaign,” he said. “It’s been a true grassroots effort with people from all over the community joining in to make a difference.”

In the parish’s only other runoff in today’s general election, Council District 5,Marilyn Bellock, D.-St. Rose won the runoff with 1,170 votes or 56.58 percent over opponent Bobby Ducote R-St.Rose, who got 898 votes or 43.42 percent of the vote.
